Yes, to see if they understand what you mean. Give them a chance to counter-act your statements. If you have a procedural system, then you would use the best knowledge that you have to address the problems you face. The best knowledge can only be attained if you check on most experiments that have proven certain things. Of course, you have to know what the shortcomings are of experiments. Not all experiments arrive at the same conclusions. Your ability to decipher that which is more relevant or less relevant has to do with your background.
