By exposing them to the methods of scientists, how scientists arrive at view points, the type of work they have to do to find out whether something is heresay or a physical correlation with the world you live in. In other words, if you do a survey of what the carrying capacity of the Earth is, and maintain a population in accordance with the carrying capacity of the resources, that is the only system you can use to determine how many people can the Earth support, by doing a survey of available resources. If you produce more people than the evironment can support, you are going to have malnutrition and territorial disputes. They don't just come about out of nothing, they come about under certain conditions.
